It's good to see that four of the five readers of my old blog made it to the new site. Thanks for following us here.
I guess maybe I have some 'splainin to do about the new address. Awhile back, some weirdy with an unknown number started calling my phone and making extremely unwelcome and disturbing comments. And while I don't think this is the fault of the internet, (oh internet, you know I could never hate you) it did make me decide to be more careful.
As part of my new careful campaign, I figured a blog address that didn't include our last name might be a good idea. So if any of you out there have us on your blogroll, please identify the site as either "The Homefront" or "Sam and Lacey."
In retrospect, the whole freaky experience with my phone caller was probably just some random, sick prank. He appears to have grown bored of me not answering his calls and has found someone else to bother.
But, at the time the calls were coming, it almost pushed me over the edge. I may as well admit, I'm terrified of weirdys anyway. I hate being home alone at night when Sam is gone. I freak out at the tiniest of unknown noises. And, I may or may not be afraid of the dark.
I know, I'm kind of a freak. But at least I'm a freak who is now toting some mace. Now if I can only manage to keep the Riles from spraying himself in the face with it, life will be good.

Don't worry, I'm a scaredy cat too. I can't even fall asleep at night if Dave isn't home and I have to have most of the lights on (sorry earth!). If I was getting creepy phone calls like that, I would have to change my pants a lot more often :)
You know when you hear weird noises all you have to do is call me and I'll be there with my shotgun. Heaven help the stray cat that scratches your door or trash can that falls over in your driveway.
Hey Lace. Finally made it. You changing your address has me thinking I need to do the same thing too. I've been careful in some aspects, and not in others. Good: don't mention last names on my blog. Bad: last name in address and posted where I work...doh!
I'm totally with you on being a scaredy cat. I called 911 one afternoon (not even dark) b/c there was a man in my back yard (in tulsa) with a black ski mask on. Turns out he was just the meter reader! I'm sure the dispatcher got a kick out of it. "Ma'am is he holding a black stick-like thing?"
"Yes."
"That's the meter reader."
"But he has a SKI MASK ON!" "Ma'am, its 30 degrees outside."
I still say Meter readers shouldn't be allowed to wear ski masks and their tool certainly shouldn't resemble a crow bar! (or at least that is what it looks like in my memory) And why in the heck were the meters IN my backyard instead of outside the fence. I always hated that!
Good to know I'm not the only scaredy cat.
Fig--thanks for the offer. The three stray cats who have adopted our house had better watch their backs.
Tam--Yeah, scratching the name of your workplace could possibly be a wise idea.
And Jen, that is HILARIOUS. I was laughing out loud. I do agree with you though, that meter readers should never be allowed to wear ski masks.
HAH!! I had a weirdy call me for our whole first year of marriage. He was a Mexicano...??(politically correct anyone????) Anyway..he would call and say "Ello Brandy?" I would say nope sorry you have the wrong number. He would call back and say "Ello Brandy?" I would say no you have the wrong number and before I could hang up he would start confessing his love to Brandy in Spanish..I felt it rude to intrude so I would always hang up. I let these phone calls go on for some time...often screaming into the phone...NO THIS IS NOT BRANDY'S PHONE!!! He persisted. Finally I had an epiphany..my husband speaks spanish...have him talk to the Brandy lover! Brilliant. He did..the call lasted two seconds...Brandy lover has never called back. I kind of miss him.
Mace..ha funny word. Keep that out of reach of Riley..I can only imagine bad things if he gets a hold of that. Very bad things.
I poop on weirdies.
I would be doing the same thing. I am glad that he got bored though! I may or may not be afraid of the dark too...
