Spencer Who?

I've only ever watched one episode of The Hills. Not because I think I'm too good for it, but because we only get five channels on our $12 a month basic cable plan. Sigh. I just can't help but feel my life is woefully incomplete.

Anyway, I've been hearing the buzz about this Spencer Pratt guy and what a jerk he is. Now, I too, have a reason to loathe him. Check out this article from people.com, with a little bit of commentary from me inserted here and there. And yes, you caught me. I occasionally read people magazine online, while taking brief breaks from devouring acclaimed literary masterpieces (Translation=I check it faithfully every day for updates. You can judge me if you want.)

Spencer Pratt's Goals: Billionaire By 30, on TV Forever

Spencer Pratt's Goals: Billionaire By 30, on TV Forever
Spencer Pratt wants to be a billionaire by the time he turns 30, but is also quite content entertaining Hills viewers as reality TV's most hated villain.

"The bottom line is I'm making people react and ultimately not think about that we are in a war in Iraq and are trying to pick leaders," he tells the November issue of Radar magazine. "The Hills is good breath for people. I do not take it a little bit seriously. I'm an entertainer."
(Yes, more reality television is just what we apathetic Americans need to take our minds off the burden of correct sentence construction, "picking our leaders," and the war in Iraq.)

What he does take seriously is his future. "I'm trying to be a billionaire before 30. Once you find an open market, that's where you can make billions to trillions of dollars," he says. (Sounds like a pretty solid plan there, Spence. Find an open market and cash in. Wish I would have thought of that.)

The 24-year-old, most famous for being Hills costar Heidi Montag's hateable fiancé, also admits to political aspirations and tells the magazine that his antics are for show, but his love for Montag is the real deal.

"She is an angel, and I'm honored to be with her. People don't even know!" he says of the 21-year-old singer. "I'm the new villain, and that's hilarious! It's so cool to be alive ... I would be on reality TV until I am 100. It's the coolest thing in town." (The coolest thing in town? The coolest thing in town? Did he seriously use that phrase?)

Pratt added: "It's so much cooler to have people come up to me and be like, 'Spencer Pratt!' and know my name, than to be Orlando Bloom, who's famous for being some pirate." (Hmm... You just keep telling yourself that.)

Who knows, maybe this whole thing was a publicity stunt. But if not--his comments really annoyed me. I'm not sure why I was itching to pick on him so much, nor am I sure why I decided to write about it. But it's my blog. And I can do whatever I want. So take that.

Ah, Lacey, I love your commentary, and no judgment here. You have every right to pick on this doofus. Sometimes I watch The Hills during the boys' naptime (I wouldn't want to expose them to all the immaturity and materialism, but I find it pretty entertaining). This guy is the MOST annoying (and apparently delusional) person ever. Thanks for the laugh.

Well I have to be honest..I have only ever seen one episode..however I have seen that one episode..hmmm..perhaps five times so maybe that counts as five episodes..it's the one where his girlfriend, fiancee' or what not, ditches him at their anniversary dinner. I don't understand the show..is it real or staged. I don't like it one bit. Stupid richies....harumph!

I would guess that it's more staged than real. And Audra, my curiousity has been piqued--why so many views of the same episode?

I LOVE this guy. He really is taking my mind off Iraq!

Seriously, if I were going to make a list of people to assassinate (that's all hypothetical - wouldn't dream of making such a list, or of him being #27), he'd be on there.

There are just some people who make the earth worse.

However, he did provide good funny-blog fodder.

Everyone's good for something.
