Boo for CNN!

I don't know if any of you were able to catch the Mitt Romney speech today. Myself, I caught part of it on You Tube after the speech was over. Here are some of the highlights in my mind:

"Freedom requires religion just as religion requires freedom...Freedom and religion endure together or perish alone."

"Some believe that such a confession of my faith will sink my candidacy. If they are right, so be it. But I think they underestimate the American people."

"Religious liberty is fundamental to America's greatness."

Romney didn't focus at all on the doctrinal aspects of our Church in his speech. Rather, his entire purpose was to ensure people that religion would in no way impact the decisions he would make as president and that Church leaders wouldn't seek to exercise influence over him if he was elected.

I thought CNN's choice of the split screen in the video I posted was appalling. Boo for you, CNN! Were you even listening to the message? At the very moment that Romney was trying to separate his personal faith from his presidential candidacy, CNN insisted on printing a list for all the world to see about specific tenets of our Church and how some of those beliefs differ from other Christian religions.

It's a sad commentary of the way that most people view our Church that the whole religion thing is even an issue for Romney. And I'm not saying that I'm voting for him, just because he's LDS. All I'm saying is that it does make me mad that so many people won't even consider him because of religion.

I thought he did a pretty good job, no doubt a hard speech to give. I agree that CNN could have had more taste in how they presented the speech. One positive, at least they put on there that we don't practice polygamy. Scott got asked at work like his first week if he was a Mormon and how many wives he had... and the lady was serious. :) I didn't think people actually believed that. I have also had someone ask me if we had a set number of kids we had to have because we were Mormon.

Boo everyone. I think this whole Mitt Romney thing is going to kill me, I really do. Literally kill me. I vote the Mormons take our coolness and our truth and go live underground somewhere we don't have to deal with this garbage. Seriously.

As for Mitt, I was convinced for a long time that I WOULD vote for him just because he's Mormon . . . these days, I think I won't. But still, I wish people weren't stoopid.

I must agree with you sistah. Dustin's bosses are from Australia..and they think it is ridiculous that Mitt even had to talk about his faith in the first place. In there opinion it shouldn't matter if you are jew, muslim, mormom, black, purple, woman, or alien...It shouldn't effect his campaign.

I think that it was a brilliant political move to give the speech, and thought he did an excellent job. I really think that his message will resonate with a lot of people.
I also think that it's good all the attention we've been getting, cause we get the chance to set a lot of things right, and show the world what it means to be LDS. I HATE how CNN covered it, and just want to punch there dang lights out.

P.S. If you like Bluegrass goes to town, then check out "Pickin' On..." You'll love it! My favorite is "Pickin' On The All-American Rejects" and "Pickin' On U2"

My favorite "fact" was that there are about 3 million Mormons worldwide, and about 6 million of those 3 million live in the U.S. I'm no math whiz, but something just isn't adding up . . .

Excellent work CNN :)

Caitlin, I didn't even pick up on that the first time I watched the video. After your comment though, I went back and checked, and yep, you're right. So double boo on CNN.

And Mim, I went and listened to a few snippets of Pickin' On on I-tunes, and I'm pretty sure I'm in love.

I thought Romney did a great job and I give him respect for standing up for what he believes in. CNN is a democratic-run piece of crap and they would do anything to slander non democrats. Personally I hate CNN and would rather watch Barney. But I did enjoyed their math! haha Is this why our govt has such a hard time with its budget?

Ya that was kind of pathetic. Chris thought it was funny that they put "3 million members world wide, 6 million members in the US." Does that make sense to anyone else?

Whoops, I just noticed that someone already commented about that. Sorry. Overall I thought it was a good speech.
